The Martin Chronicles just learned that Villa Hills Mayor Mike Martin has actually removed SIX computers from the city building and police department over the past few weeks. The computer company he hired to service the city network confirms that Martin brings them in to have the hard drives copied and additional work done to them.
Sources who have been looking at the time line between when Martin takes the computers off city premises and delivers them to the computer company in Erlanger are more convinced than ever that, as one person said, “Martin is up to no good. He is taking the computers someplace else first and either adding or taking something off the hard drives. Then he takes the computers to the clueless computer contractor. This guy Martin is a total fraud.”
As we have already written, the real problem is that Martin is doing this while he is the target of a very serious investigation being conducted by Special Counsel Phil Taliaferro.
While the majority of city council is highly concerned, they are getting no support from the city attorney. We did some digging into what happened when the man who was mayor in 2000 was under investigation. The previous Villa Hills city attorney had the intestinal fortitude to bar then-Mayor Steve Clark from access to the city’s computers while that investigation was underway more than eleven years ago. That city attorney’s proactive steps may have helped preserve the key piece of evidence that led to Clark’s resignation.
What is happening in 2011? The current city attorney sits passively by, doing a wonderful imitation of Rip-off Van Winkle, as Martin exercises his “broad powers”. It would be laughable-if it wasn’t so serious.
