The Martin Chronicles reported yesterday that Councilman Jim Noll has been going door-to-door attempting to mislead people about the purpose of next Tuesday's road tax vote. Noll wants voters to believe that a "YES" vote is for the purpose of repealing the $40 license fee. That is pure flim-flam. The real 40 is the FORTY PERCENT PROPERTY TAX INCREASE A "YES" VOTE WILL BRING.
Noll should be held accountable for his deception.
Is there another deception? Mayor Mike Martin boldly announced that there are 6,800 vehicles registered in the city at a recent council meeting. His purpose? We suspect Martin was attempting to make the license fee compliance issue seem even worse than it is. Why? To inflame voters into approving a massive tax increase on themselves to punish the "free-roaders".
Why the suspicion? The numbers speak for themselves. There were roughly 5,600 vehicles registered in Villa Hills when Councilman Greg Kilburn proposed a license fee increase to fund street repair in 2007.
Martin wants the voters to believe that an additional 1,200 vehicles have been added to the rolls since then?
Why is it that government officials like Mike Martin and Jim Noll can't be straight with the voters?
The Martin Chronicles believes the city needs properly maintained roads. But we don't believe the malarkey Martin and Noll are peddling. That is why we support the defeat of their road tax proposal next Tuesday.
