Town Hall Meetings This Week

The Martin Chronicles hopes a large number of Villa Hills' residents attend this week's Candidate Town Hall meetings. The opportunity to hear the council candidates' stance on several important issues is being held Tuesday, October 14 and the mayoral candidates get their turn on Thursday, October 16. The Villa Madonna Theater will be the venue for both events. Both gatherings begin at 7PM.

Given the current sorry state of Villa Hills city government, people should learn whatever they can about the candidates before they vote. A largely informed electorate should produce much better results than in 2010 and 2012. Countless people have asked and written the question, "How do we get rid of that guy (Martin)?" That question would never have been necessary if people had done even a little homework before they voted in 2010. But many didn't. The dismal aftermath of that neglect speaks for itself.

Judging by the incredible lies Martin is telling on the campaign trail now, he is banking on an uninformed electorate again this year. Martin is taking full credit for things that never happened and blaming everyone else for the many scandals and failures that did. We stopped being shocked by Martin's brazen dishonesty a long, long time ago. We think many of you have as well.

The Martin Chronicles believes that residents should also pay close attention to the candidates who do attend these Town Hall meetings-and to those who do not. We have been struggling to think of a valid reason for any candidate not to participate in an event designed to inform the public. Short of serious illness or a real family crisis, we have not come up with a single, solitary one.

Let's assume for the sake of discussion that Dave Hilgeford's baseless assertion that the Sensible Citizens Group is "partician" is true. Even still, so what? That is not a valid reason to run away and hide from the voters.

No place in Villa Hills is more "partician" than the Villa Hills Civic Club. The candidate nights they used to host were really nothing more than Mike Martin pep rallies. Martin had the audience well-stocked with cronies to ask crazy questions and do the little fella's dirty work. Not only did the Civic Club directors fail to stop Martin's dishonest antics, most actively participated in them with him. Yet every candidate ran those hillbilly gauntlets. No one ran away and hid. Never.

We have been hearing that Martin himself does not plan to attend. If true, that is disgraceful. And-in our opinion-a disqualifying act. Martin loves to beat his chest and brag that he is the "CEO" of Villa Hills.

He should have the guts to face the public and explain why he should continue as the "CEO".
