Here are our observations-to-date:
- One obvious fact is that Martin has far fewer yard signs out than he did in 2010. That is not a good sign for a guy whose endless stream of lies helped him barely eke out victory by the skin of his teeth that year. Maybe Martin is waiting to put out more signs closer to election day? If so, that is a very, very bad strategy. Why? Voters' preferences are already solidifying around one of the four mayoral candidates.
- It is also a fact that Martin's taxpayer-funded political propaganda piece has back-fired. Many of the residents we've talked to never even read it. We understand that. Is the annual property tax bill a good environment to falsely promote what a wonderful guy you are? Who jumps at the chance to open a tax bill? Those who have seen the taxpayer-funded political propaganda piece see it for exactly what it is. They don't like it even a little bit. In fact, at least one resident has already contacted the Attorney General about it.
- Our initial thoughts on the four-way race weren't exactly right. After talking to dozens of residents it now appears that it isn't just Holly B. Menninger who is taking votes from former Martin supporters. Irvin Callery is also gaining most-not all, but most-of his support from former Martin voters as well. Many of the septuagenarian Callery supporters are friends of his sons. That is another bad omen for the diminutive dictator Martin.
- While we're on the subject of the septuagenarian Irvin Callery, his advanced age is a problem for many voters. While residents rightfully respect Callery's past accomplishments, they are clearly worried about his advanced age. These residents understand the energy that will be required to fix the terrible mess Martin has made. They also understand that Callery will be approaching 80 years old at the end of a potential first term.
- Many resident don't cotton to the idea that Martin is misusing taxpayer money to hire his personal-and now City-Attorney Toad V. McMurtry (of Gerner & Kerns). These residents asked our reporters how this is ethical. The obvious answer is that it is not ethical.
- Amsterdam Village will be the site of Martin's "Last Stand" to gain re-election. As our reporters traveled east of the intersection of Collins and Amsterdam Roads, they found that Martin is almost universally hated for a variety of perfectly understandable reasons. But, the decidedly middle class area known as Amsterdam Village has more voters. These were the folks who delivered Martin his slim win in 2010. They are Martin's only hope this year. Our many sources in Amsterdam Village tell us that Martin and his good old boy network are working their black magic in that area very hard.
- Martin did severe damage to his re-election hopes at Prospect Point earlier this week. Many Prospect Point residents were highly offended by Martin's description of their community as "substandard". Prospect Pointers were also repulsed by the deceitful attendance by Martin's son-in-law's improper attendance at the event. Especially since Martin's son-in-law doesn't even live in Villa Hills. Finally, residents were also repulsed by Martin's inexplicable lie that he didn't know about that candidate event. Why? Because the letter inviting him to the event was discovered-left behind by Martin himself-at the podium.
- Martin's incessant lying is finally catching up to him all across Villa Hills. Many residents we talked to now understand that the tiny tyrant always intended to wreak vengeful havoc on the local police department. Many residents now understand that the miniature mullah intended to wreak that havoc because he was smarting over his judicially-justified 2007 forgery arrest. Martin's defining moment in many residents' eyes? That happened when he lied to the cameras, falsely saying that former Police Chief Dan Goodenough was " just taking a few days off".
- Many residents are very upset about Martin's many frequent ploys to raise their taxes. They don't believe that he finally intends to do away with the UNFAIR $40 PER CAR STICKER TAX. They are also very upset that Martin INCREASED THE SNEAKY INSURANCE PREMIUM TAX BY ROUGHLY FIFTY PER CENT. Especially since the SNEAKY INSURANCE PREMIUM TAX INCREASE IS NOT RESTRICTED FOR STREET REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT.
We'll know if that is going to happen on November 4.
