So, what did the DISHONEST Martin say? Well, he told the reporters that the Chief was just "taking a few days off", that "he hasn't been fired", that "he is still employed by the City of Villa Hills" yada-yada-yada. Typical Martin LIES.
What the DISHONEST Martin didn't say was that Martin and his personal-and now taxpayer-funded City-Attorney Toad V. McMurtry (of Gerner and Kearns) had recently presented Chief Goodenough with a true Hobson's Choice. Martin and McMurtry told Goodenough that he would either have to walk away from his twenty-seven years of dedicated service to Villa Hill-while surrendering his right to ever speak about it and agreeing to never return to the employ of Villa Hills-or face the relentless wrath of Martin's patented LIBEL, SLANDER, DEFAMATION AND MUDSLINGING. In other words, Martin and McMurtry told Goodenough to "take it or leave it".
So now we know the truth. Martin planned to take his LIES to the mostly-supplicant "golden moment" council and browbeat them in to granting the diminutive dictator's wish of FIRING CHIEF GOODENOUGH TONIGHT. But, it hasn't worked out quite the way the DISHONEST Martin wanted. Perhaps these cowards were frightened by the huge attendance and the cameras of television stations 5, 9, 12 and 19.
The DISHONEST Martin, McMurtry and the mostly-supplicant "golden moment" council have retreated behind the secrecy of closed doors in so-called Executive Session". Why? They are looking for some possible way to justify firing Goodenough and still escape the wrath of the voters.
A new broom can sweep completely clean in 237 days.
