Labor Pains

The Martin Chronicles has heard from several sources that Villa Hills Mayor Mike Martin is fretting over how he is going to pay the more than $150,000 in wasteful overtime resulting from his dreadful mismanagement of the police department. Evidently he is lamenting that the money “isn’t in the budget”.
Excuse us, but what budget? Martin is so slipshod that he has been unable to prepare a budget that the majority of council could pass at the beginning of this fiscal year.  His budget proposal was a nonsensical trick bag prepared with the assistance of Councilman Mike Pope and $47.50 per hour clerk/bookkeeper Cordelia Schaber. That goes a long way to explaining the unmitigated mess.
So what is the result? Martin has more than $3 million to do with whatever he wants. Plus, the City had a cash reserve in excess of $900,000 when Martin began his Reign of Error.
But he can’t cover the overtime? That should set off alarm bells. What is the world has happened to all that taxpayer money? The Martin Chronicles suspects the mayor simply doesn’t comprehend. We think Martin is rattled because of the “Dear Mayor” e-mail he received from Pope in late January pleading for some control over the wild spending.
Speaking of fretting about overtime, The Martin Chronicles has learned that the Department of Labor (DOL) has been in Villa Hills investigating Martin’s manpower mayhem. Sources in Frankfort report that the representatives are having a difficult time comprehending the mayor’s mess. This is not what the taxpayer’s need. Severe fines and penalties handed down by the DOL would represent just more waste.
We guess it won’t matter. Martin apparently thinks he doesn’t have any taxpayer money left to squander. The Martin Chronicles hopes he never figures it out.
