Hello? . . . Wackenhut?

The Martin Chronicles is following a lead on what is truly an astounding story.
Villa Hills Mayor Mike Martin is obviously smarting from the severe criticism he is rightfully taking for his pathetic mismanagement of employee overtime. Frankly, Martin should be ashamed for his incompetence resulting in a waste of more than $150,000 of taxpayer money.
As has been his pattern, Martin reacts to every crisis in exactly the wrong way. A rational, educated mayor would work with his department heads to find solutions to the burgeoning overtime problem. Not Mike Martin. Instead, the CEO has decreed that any employee facing a potential overtime situation must contact the mayor directly for approval.
The granite-heads at the Civic Club and the St. Joe’s Heavy Drinking Men’s Society probably applaud Martin’s draconian action. At least until they hear what has happened as a result.
Most Villa Hills residents are well aware that the City is facing a rapidly escalating crime problem. A night ago, a VHPD officer realized he was coming to the end of his scheduled shift and was aware of Martin’s mandate. So, not wanting to be charged with insubordination, the investigating officer contacted the mayor.
Of course the mayor knows that the first 48 hours following are the most crucial to solving it, right? There is no way the mayor would literally aid and abet criminals by calling off the police, correct? Surely the mayor can discern the times when overtime truly makes sense?
Guess again. The Martin Chronicles is working to confirm the rumors that Martin told the police officer that he would not approve overtime for crime fighting. The Martin Chronicles suggests every Villa Hills’ resident keep their doors and windows locked at all times. Perhaps residents should even consider an alarm system or check into some Army Surplus floodlights. Better yet, they may want to look into the cost of a Wackenhut security guard.
The Martin Chronicles wants to remind everyone that this ain’t the cookie factory!
