Checks And Balances

The Martin Chronicles hopes a goodly number of Villa Hills voters remember at least a little of what they learned in their Civics and US Government classes. Because if they don't, the next two years could be even worse-if that is possible-than Villa Hills malfeasant Mayor Mike Martin's dreadful first two years. The concept we hope voters remember? "Checks and balances". What if the voters elect no one who will provide those checks and balances?

The over-arching question is, "who has been in charge these past two years?" The obvious answer is the malfeasant Martin. And even with a council who took their responsibilities of oversight very seriously we have witnessed an astonishing amount of Martin corruption and Martin incompetence.

If Dale Schaber is elected, do you think we will see more or less corruption in the form of cronyism? Given the fact that one of the first things Martin did in 2011 was hire Schaber's wife Cordelia to do a job for which she is totally unqualified and pay her $47.50 per hour of your money to do it very poorly, the answer seems obvious.

Dale Schaber is also Martin's co-defendant in a LIBEL, SLANDER and DEFAMATION lawsuit filed by a police officer who Martin and Schaber falsely accused of committing serious crimes. Martin's track record of retaliation against and decimation of the Villa Hills Police Department over his first two years has been shocking. It continues to this very day. Do you think the situation will be better or worse for the police department if Dale Schaber is elected? Given the fact that Schaber shares Martin's deep-seated animosity towards the police department and its officers, the answer seems obvious.

And then there is the mean-spirited Mary Koenig. Koenig developed quite a reputation for being a tax and spender back in the 1990's. Koenig voted to raise your property taxes  nine times. Koenig voted to institute the payroll tax. Koenig proposed a recreation tax.

Koenig wanted to spend millions of dollars on a "sports complex" on the Civic Club's Franzen Fields. Koenig pushed to give the City of Crescent Springs ONE MILLION OF YOUR DOLLARS so that they could build their park with YOUR MONEY.

Koenig was also directly responsible for Steve Clark's termination of then-Police Chief Corky Brown. Her infamous e-mail to Clark advising him to "pick Corky's brain and then get rid of him" is contained in Special Counsel's 2001 report and is available for public inspection at the Villa Hills City Building.

Given Villa Hills current police department problems, budget woes and dismal lack of leadership, will the wild-spending, mean-spirited Koenig make things better or worse? Given the fact that Koenig shares Martin and Schaber's deep-seated animosity towards the police department and its officers and has an almost reflexive instinct to TAX and SPEND, the answer seems obvious.

Some of you may be upset with the current City Council. But without their experience and vigilance, things will be far worse.

Some of you may have voted for Martin looking for some vague, non-descript "change". Now you understand the old expression "be careful what you ask for because you just might get it" far better than ever before.

Do you really want to repeat that mistake again just two years later?

Say "NO" to Dale Schaber and Mary Koenig. Vote to keep "checks and balances" in place.
