If you are a resident who understands that the tumult and turmoil of the past 39-plus months of Villa Hills malfeasant Mayor Mike Martin's Reign of Error hasn't-and will never be-good for your City, you should strongly consider attending. Clearly, a change in City leadership is necessary.
If the first meeting of the "Sensible Citizens" group is any indication-and we believe it is-this Friday's meeting won't be a "bash Martin" session. We predict that this meeting will be the first in a series of thoughtful discussions about identifying and supporting solid candidates who will bring a desperately needed change to Villa Hills City Government.
Sure, that needed change must begin in the mayor's office. Martin's terrible tenure has been nothing short of an abject disaster. Only the voters can redirect his sorry political career. But the change must go further.
A new mayor's chances of getting the City back on track will increase dramatically if he or she is surrounded by a council who understands that the first goal is public service. We've seen the terrible result of electing people who are more interested in advancing their personal agendas.
No, the "Sensible Citizens" should not push for a mayor and council who march in lock step or agree on every issue. But they should push for a mayor and council who focus on those good things upon which they can agree and work together to get those things done.
Healthy, intelligent debate on important issues is a good thing. But-as we have seen over these past 39-plus months-backstabbing, obfuscation and bulling are not. A good mayor and a good council will advocate for their positions, state their best case, take a vote, accept the result and then move on to the next issue as adults.
Villa Hills has had more than enough of street-brawling leadership. It's time to begin the process of putting that in the past where it belongs.
Friday night represents the beginning of that process.
