It's easy to fall into the trap of believing Villa Hills councilman Mike Pope is just your garden variety crackpot. But he is no piker when it comes to wing-nuttiness! After observing Pope in action and reading his "other city website" for some time, we have concluded that this guy isn't just nuts, he thinks he can see the future!
We first started to wonder about Pope when he presented his LOG (Pope's misspelling, not ours) TERM PLAN FOR VILLA HILLS at the 2010 candidate's forum. Pope taped a huge visual aid to the speaker's podium. Then he commenced to ignore it. Much to the displeasure of the City Engineer who provides a monthly update on the progress of the long-standing city road plan at every council meeting, Pope then explained to the crowd that they would have to check his "alternate reality" website for the only Villa Hills road plan in existence.
There were a few details Pope failed to share with the crowd. Like the fact that he and soon-to-be mayor Mike Martin were going to force you to vote yourself a FORTY PER CENT PROPERTY TAX INCREASE in order to get rid of the dreaded $40 license fee. He also forgot to tell you that he was going to waste a bunch of your money having a road plan prepared stretching out to the year 2200! And, oh yes, even if you make that bad choice and vote yourself a huge tax increase . . . Pope and Martin are still going to make you pay for any repair to your street out of your own pocket through ASSESSMENTS!
Pope was able to discern one thing correctly when he stared into his murky crystal ball that night. He understands that no matter how bizarre he behaves, the voters of Villa Hills will continue to re-elect him. Proving once again that voters get the government they deserve.
