"If It Ain't Broke . . .

The Martin Chronicles knows how most people would finish the statement in the title of this post. Of course the rest of the statement for most people is . . . Don't Fix It!"

Our publisher broke bread with a long time Villa Hills political observer yesterday who quipped that mismanaging Mayor Mike Martin has a slightly different version of that wise old saying. Martin's version goes something like this . . .

"If it ain't broke . . . I can break it!!!"

This pundit is amazed by the reaction of those people who have the "Mayor Martin-We Support You" signs in their yard. Are these people pleased that Martin has taken a City that had been voted the NUMBER ONE CITY in Northern Kentucky roughly two years ago and driven it over the proverbial cliff? More likely, it is simply a matter of blind loyalty. Nothing can be done about that.

More troubling are all the peaceniks and hand-wringers who seem to want to blame anyone but Martin for the mess. Or, simply want to paper over the corruption and incompetence with a few bars of "Michael Row The Boat Ashore". Something can be done about that. It's called laying out the facts, LOUDLY and CLEARLY for people to see. We still hope that happens. Before it is too late.

To get a sense of where the mindset of the Villa Hills populace really is, our publisher has enlisted the assistance of a political science professor from one of our local universities. He has commissioned this professor to use his summer students to do a poll of registered voters in Martin's City to find out what people really think.

We hope to have the survey results for you in one week. It should be interesting.

[EDITOR'S NOTE: We are still trying to confirm when Council-loon Mike Pope's resignation took effect. The only other possibility aside from resignation is that he is simply insane. We must tell you that, to a person, our staff believes that Pope is simply insane.]
