The Martin Chronicles first reported Mayor Mike Martin’s fumbling presentation to the Area Planning Commission (NKAPZC) on Sunday, December 4. We have obtained a copy of an e-mail sent by Martin to the members of the city council, also dated Sunday, December 4 at 8:13PM.
Martin was responding to an e-mail from Councilman George Bruns about Martin’s decision not to include Zoning Administrator Joe Schutzman in the process. Bruns was also asking about Martin’s failure to forward relevant documents over the past several months to city planning and zoning committee members Bruns and his fellow council member Scott Ringo despite the fact that the correspondence indicated they were to be cc’d.
We are reprinting Martin’s e-mail in its entirety and unedited. Nothing is taken out of context. The e-mail speaks for itself.
George and all council,
Did you get my email I sent Friday morning? If you did not receive it I have copied and pasted it below. (Note: we will examine the e-mail Martin copied and pasted that he claims he sent on Friday, December 2 at a later date.)
It explains what really went on at the meeting. If you are not comfortable with my explanation of what happened at the meeting I suggest you watch the reply yourself or call the NKAPC and talk to the president Paul DePaul and some of the members. Dave hilgeford is a resident of Villa Hills and is a member of the commission, I’m sure he would take the time to explain what happened at the meeting.
As to the information being forwarded to you and the rest of council. I would expect the person sending the information should ask that this be forwarded if that’s what they want. Normally when people are cc: they the sender forwards them a copy as well.
As to the meeting and not informing Joe. First those meetings are always held on the First Monday of every month. I’m not sure Joe is aware of this. Since you indicated that Joe was already having communication with the developer, why did Joe not show up I can not answer for him.
I did not request his present because I did not believe it was necessary, and from the outcome of the commission decision I was right. I was and did communicate the city’s position and the board agreed.
Mike
The e-mail betrays a problem many predicted from the day Martin announced he was running for mayor in August 2010. Namely, Martin’s deep-seated hostility towards Schutzman and the majority of council members makes it very difficult, perhaps impossible, for mayor, council and employees to work together effectively.
Doesn’t Martin have regular meetings with the city’s zoning administrator to discuss ongoing issues? How is it that Martin doesn’t know what communication took place between the zoning administrator and the developer? How could Martin not know why his zoning administrator wasn’t at the meeting? Why wouldn’t Martin take steps to ensure the city’s planning and zoning committee received information about the Felice development? Martin is the “CEO” after all.
By Martin’s way of thinking, it’s everyone else’s fault. The ends, namely the action of the NKAPZC, justify his slipshod means of representing the interests of the residents. Despite thinking he "was right". Sometimes you just get lucky. But only sometimes.
