How We May Perceive Mike Pope

Villa Hills’ councilman Mike Pope is perfect for the Christmas Season. He is the gift that keeps on giving. The Martin Chronicles shared Mayor Martin’s bizarre e-mail explanation to George Bruns and the rest of city council of his reckless antics at the Northern Kentucky Area Planning and Zoning Commission with you yesterday. The following gem was also in the stream of e-mails that The Martin Chronicles obtained.
This is the second time Pope has attacked someone who dared to question the “CEO”’s boundless authority recently. We can only guess that Pope has appointed himself Mayor Martin’s “Attack Chihuahua”. Once again, we have reprinted the e-mail in its entirety so we are not accused of taking Pope’s rant out of context. Enjoy!
Councilman Bruns…
You seem to be selectively read and interpret things as YOU want them to be.
When the mayor says “I did not request his present because I didn’t believe it was necessary, and from the outcome of the commission decision I was right.” That’s pretty clear. He doesn’t need (Zoning Administrator) Joe (Schutzman) to be paid overtime to express the City’s opinion which comes from the Mayor not Joe.
You also should share with Joe that YOU do not have the Authority to instruct him to attend any NKAPC meetings as a paid employee of the city. You are way overstepping your authority as a councilperson and may be confusing Joe as to who he reports to. Nowhere in the Mayor’s reply did I read that he wants Joe to attend every meeting and I think it is unethical (emphasis added) for you to knowingly give Joe such incorrect information. Did you exclude the Mayor’s comments from your e-mail when you included Joe to conceal what was ACTUALLY said?
You may perceive that you are running the city…but in this case…perception isn’t reality.
Mike
Poor Pope. He has a great deal of emotion invested in the Martin Administration. And it is not going well at all. A special counsel investigation that is uncovering mountains of troubling information. Financial reporting chaos. A street tax annihilated at the polls. Slipshod mismanagement. Open Meeting and Open Records statute violations. Sexual harassment. A tidal wave of ethics complaints (by the way, do you agree that Pope chose the word “unethical” in his e-mail for that reason?).
His attacks betray frayed nerves-and a lack of good judgment. We may perceive Mike Pope is losing it. And in this case…perception IS reality.
