The Day Has Come

The Martin Chronicles has been counting down the days to the November 4 election for some time now. We are now on the eve of the election in current, malfeasant Mayor Mike Martin's Villa Hills. We will offer no predictions on the outcome of tomorrow's vote. We will simply report what happens.

There are clearly strong feelings on all sides. Martin's supporters are claiming that people who oppose their choice are simply "naysayers". We can only suppose that they want voters to ignore the many embarrassments of the past four years.

While Martin's supporters are correct when they say that Villa Hills is a fine community, its city government has shown itself to be a corrupt and incompetent mess time and time again. Restoring some semblance of honesty and competency to that local government will only serve to make Villa Hills an even better community.

Any of Martin's three mayoral opponents would do a better job than the corrupt incumbent. That isn't "naysaying". That is a statement of fact. We hope that the four-way race doesn't allow Martin the opening to be re-elected with 30% of tomorrow's vote.

The council race has been a real doozy as well. "The Martin Five" and their supporters want voters to believe that their opponents represent some non-existent previous "regime". While nasty claims like that may make "good politics", its also disgraceful. After all, Mary Koenig-the titular head of "The Martin Five"-was first elected to city council way back in 1989. Talk about an "old regime".

We've also heard some strange allegations making the rounds. The allegation that the Sensible Citizens' group is somehow trying to "rig" tomorrow's election is most likely the strangest. One accuser went so far as to suggest that the group would derive "financial gain" from their efforts. If so, they would have a lot of ground to make up before they caught up to the $250,000 financial gain Martin's personal attorney has experienced since being hired to serve as City Attorney.

We've looked at the Sensible Citizens' group very closely. The group is mostly an extension of the large opposition to Martin's radical plan to disband the local police department. We have reviewed every piece of literature they have circulated. We have reviewed their Facebook page and website. We attended their Town Hall candidate meetings. In every case, we have seen absolutely no evidence that the Sensible Citizens are backing any of the four mayoral or nine council candidates.

The voting starts in less than twenty-four hours.
